Interior Design Trends 2019

The start of a new year signals the beginning of another 12 months of new and exciting design trends to make an appearance. Many people will celebrate the year 2019 by exploring new designs and performing the renovations that have been itching in the back of their mind. As the year progresses we will begin to see new trends emerge and evolve but we are already starting to see these new ideas form. Round furniture, luscious greens, and statement ceilings are all exciting new trends that are on the horizon so let’s delve into why interior design is moving in this direction.

When it comes to furniture, 2019 will be a big year for rounding out those corners on your sofas and lounge chairs. Many designers have been taking inspiration from the 1970’s in the form of bring back that chic sense of style of living rooms from that era. A big reason for this trend making a recurrence is that they can add a sense of softness to a room by eliminating harsh edges entirely. They also are great for use as a room focal point as well as creating a contrast between the natural straight lines that make up your walls and other furniture. Expect to see more rounded edges in 2019.

The color of green is making a big resurgence in 2019 and we fully expect more and more designers to find new and interesting ways to incorporate it into their schemes. In the proper amounts, green is a great color for conveying a sense of calm and serenity. Many designers are finding themselves using green to give a bathroom a sense of freshness, invoke the spirit of nature into a kitchen, and diffuse the feeling of stress in a living room. For being such a basic color, green is fantastic for a wide variety of applications so expect to be green with envy in the upcoming months.

The Pantone color of the year for 2019 is “coral”. Expect to see more coral and designers infusing various hues of coral in to their designs.

2018 was a big year for statement ceilings as a new way to liven up the feeling of a room; expect this trend to become even bigger in 2019 as more and more designers discover the scheme possibilities that open up with this trend. Commonly being referred to as the ‘fifth wall’, statement ceilings are a way to completely change the emotion of a room without having to change a single thing about the rest of the area. Changing the color of a ceiling can create a wonderful contrast throughout the space as well as change how light rests underneath. The ceiling is an unexplored opportunity for many designers to try something new and discovery a new look that could influence future designs to come. We are all looking forward for what this trend will bring in 2019.

With a new year comes new ideas and trends that will either stand the test of time or fade into obscurity. Many new ideas and concepts come to light as people explore their creativity and try to come up with the big concept of the year. No matter what this year may bring us, we are looking forward to what may be born from these concepts going forward.
